April birthstone, diamond, elevates your spring beauty

February 22, 2022/0 Comments/in Birth Stones/by ICIA Media Center

Diamonds are a non-renewable treasure gifted to us by nature. As the birthstone for April, it is not only crystal clear and dazzling, but also symbolizes tenacity, eternity, and immaculateness. The well-known slogan “Diamonds are eternal, one is forever” makes people believe that diamonds are a commemoration and testimony of love. People are accustomed to wearing diamond rings when they are engaged and married, in order to express their yearning and pursuit of a happy marriage.

Basic properties and evaluation of diamonds

The main component of diamond is carbon. A well-polished diamond has a strong luster and brilliance, and the high dispersion value gives the diamond a strong “fire”, adding infinite charm to it.

Diamonds have a saying that “don’t look at the origin to see the 4C”, when buying a diamond, we need to pay more attention to its 4C classification. The 4Cs refer to Carat Weight, Color, Clarity and Cut. Each of the 4Cs is indispensable for assessing the value of a diamond.

Let’s start with carat weight, the greater the weight of a diamond of the same quality, the more precious it is. At the same time, diamonds have a carat premium. With the same cut, clarity, and color, the price of a diamond increases in increments as the diamond’s weight increases and it reaches a full carat number.

The color of diamonds is divided into 12 consecutive color grades according to the color change according to the national standard, which is represented by the English letters D-N. D-E grade is extremely white, F-G grade is excellent white, H grade is white, I-J grade is light yellow (brown, gray) white, K-L grade is light yellow (brown, gray) white, M-N grade is light yellow (brown, gray) color, and N grade below is yellow (brown, gray) color. As the color deepens, the diamond’s color grade decreases, and so does its value.

Regarding the clarity of diamonds, China’s diamond grading standard GB/T16554-2003 divides the clarity grade into five major grades: LC, VVS1~2, VS1~2, SI1~2 and P1~3, with a total of ten small grades. A gemmological technician assigns a clarity grade based on the volume, location and number of inclusions inside the diamond. Clarity also has a direct impact on the price of a diamond, with fewer inclusions and more light refraction, and the more brilliant the diamond will be.

When it comes to the cut of a diamond, whether a diamond can shine or not depends on how well it cuts. The quality of the cut directly affects the fire of the diamond, which is why it is often said that “cut is the second life of a diamond”.

Colored diamonds are more expensive but rarer

Most diamonds are expensive to mine. Diamond mines are often located in remote areas, which further increases the complexity of diamond mining, as well as presents special challenges and high costs.

The color of diamonds can be divided into two main categories, one is the colorless – light yellow (brown, gray) series, and the other is the color series. Colorless – light yellow (brown, gray) color series includes near colorless to light yellow, light brown, light gray. Another type of color series of colors includes yellow, brown, red, pink, blue, green, violet, black, etc. We know that colorless diamonds are valuable, so are colored diamonds of the same quality and size rarer and more expensive than colorless diamonds? The answer is yes. Some experts estimate that colored diamonds account for only about 2% of the total rough diamond production, so their price is predictable. (The above data is for reference only)

Yellow diamonds are a relatively common color among colored diamonds, and are more abundant than colored diamonds of other colors. The intoxicating beauty of yellow diamonds opens up more possibilities for engagement rings.

And when it comes to pink diamonds, in addition to the well-known scarcity attributes, its attractive appearance is even more fascinating. The color of a pink diamond is related to the plastic deformation that occurs during its formation environment and migration, resulting in defects in the crystal structure. This is very rare, which makes pink diamonds even rarer, and it is not difficult to understand why they are frequently fetched at auctions.

In addition to being beautiful, natural diamonds also have a high collection value. Most girls find it difficult to resist the sparkle of natural diamonds, and many people will choose diamond necklaces or rings as a token of love. With the development of new technologies, a lot of “interesting” jewelry has come into being. The Smile Diamond series launched by Xingguangda Jewelry uses the principle of precision leverage to achieve 8 high-frequency vibrations per second of the diamond, each vibration hits the heart, and the jumping fire makes the diamond visually increase the sparkle by nearly 20%. Swing and move, freeze the arc of the smile, make the happiness more pure, and fully show the new style of vitality and dynamic.

Here, we would also like to remind everyone that diamonds need to be carefully protected and regularly maintained, and do not allow diamonds to collide with sharp objects. In addition, due to the lipophilic and hydrophobic properties of diamonds, after wearing them for a period of time, their surface will adhere to the surface of the body secretion of oil, sweat or applied cosmetics, and they need to be cleaned regularly.

Diamonds are at stake in the lives of millions of people

Natural diamonds are a gift from nature, honed for billions of years deep underground, and each one is precious and sparkling. However, what you may not know is that there is a unique story behind a sparkling diamond. Not only does it create a lot of jobs for the mining countries, but it also continues to effectively drive the local economy. In 2016, the world’s leading natural diamond mining companies joined forces to form the Natural Diamond Council. It promotes the values upheld by its member companies and the positive social benefits created by the natural diamond industry as a whole. With 35 mining sites in eight countries around the world, the members of the Natural Diamond Association operate operations that impact the lives of millions of people and the environment.

The Natural Diamond Association provides good, safe and well-paid employment opportunities for large numbers of people around the world, improving local infrastructure, health care and education. At the same time, the Natural Diamond Association focuses on the protection of the natural environment, through pre-mining assessments, comprehensive mine closure and other measures to greatly reduce the negative impact of mining activities on the environment and ensure the sustainable mining of natural diamonds.

Although natural diamonds are not a necessity, they are something that people crave. It will be great when we get it in a socially ethical way and benefit the majority. If you also like diamonds, go ahead and pick one!
