In March, everything is full of life, all life begins to come alive, and aquamarine, which has the attribute of “water”, the source of life, is designated as the birthstone for March, which symbolizes composure, courage and intelligence.

Aquamarine’s English name is derived from the Latin words “aqua” and “marine”, “aqua” means water, and “marine” means sea. In ancient legends, aquamarine can capture the soul of the ocean, and people who are adrift on the sea are accustomed to wear it to bless the safety of navigation, so aquamarine is also known as “Fuhai Stone”. In addition to blessing peace, aquamarine is also considered the “stone of love” and is believed to bring you sweet love and a happy marriage.

Aquamarine is a light blue, greenish-blue to blue-green beryl, and its blue-green color is mainly caused by divalent iron ions. In general, aquamarines are lighter in color, and most of the dark-colored aquamarines on the market are heat-treated yellow beryls.

Aquamarine is mainly produced in Brazil, Madagascar, the United States, Myanmar, India, Tanzania, Argentina, Norway, Ireland and other places. In addition, in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Zambia and other countries, smaller particles of deep blue aquamarines are also found, and the rough stones are up to less than 5 carats.

Aquamarine is popular for its clear and elegant color. Faceted aquamarine has few visible defects to the naked eye, and has a hardness of 7.5-8 on the Mohs scale, which is not easy to be worn, practical and beautiful to wear as jewelry, and has a high cost performance.

Among the many gemstones that look similar to aquamarine, blue topaz is easily confused with aquamarine. The same is blue, generally speaking, aquamarine is lighter in color, mainly sea blue, lake blue, can have a green hue; Blue topaz, on the other hand, is usually irradiated by colorless topaz to give it a blue color, and its color is darker, and it generally only shows a blue hue. Aquamarine and blue topaz have similar refractive and birefringent inclusions, and both have two-phase gas-liquid inclusions inside, which can be easily confused when viewed with the naked eye and can only be distinguished by careful inspection.

Finally, I would like to share some tips with you. When wearing aquamarine jewelry, it is necessary to avoid contact with acid and alkali substances, avoid long-term exposure to high temperatures, and prevent it from rubbing and colliding with other items to avoid scars. After daily wear, wipe with a soft cloth to keep it clean.
